  3. Diamond GT Windows 95 Drivers with InControl Tools 95                README.TXT

  7. Release Notes
  8. -------------
  9. This is version 4.02.325 of the Diamond GT Windows 95 Drivers disk, with
  10. InControl Tools 95 version 4.02.147.  This driver currently supports the
  11. following Diamond display adapters:
  12.  
  13.         Stealth64 Video 3000 series
  14.  
  15. Windows 95 Installation Notes
  16. ------------------------------
  17.  
  18. 1.  Install the VGA driver for Windows 95.
  19.         a.  From Windows 95, select Start, select Settings, select Control
  20.             Panel, then select Display.
  21.  
  22.         b.  Select the Settings tab.
  23.  
  24.         c.  Select Change Display Type.
  25.  
  26.         d.  Select Change... in the Adapter Type section.
  27.  
  28.         e.  Select Show all devices.
  29.  
  30.         f.  Scroll to the top of the Manufacturers window.  Select (Standard
  31.             display types).
  32.  
  33.         g.  Select Standard Display Adapter (VGA), then select OK.
  34.  
  35.         f.  Select Close.
  36.  
  37.         h.  Select Apply.
  38.  
  39.         i.  Windows 95 will ask that the computer be restarted.  Click on Yes to
  40.             restart the computer.

  43. 2.  Preparing for the installation:
  44.         a. If you have downloaded the Diamond GT Drivers to your hard disk, 
  45.        perform the following:
  46.  
  47.         i.   Create a temporary directory to contain the downloaded file.
  48.  
  49.         ii.  Execute the file to perform the file decompression.
  50.  
  51.         iii. Make note of the complete path to INSTALL.EXE.
  52.  
  53.         b. If you have the floppy disk version of the Diamond GT Drivers, place
  54.        the floppy disk in the drive now.
  55.  
  56.  
  57. 3.  From Windows 95, select Start, then select Run.
  58.  
  59.         a. If you are installing a downloaded version of the Diamond GT Drivers,
  60.        type the complete path to INSTALL.EXE.
  61.  
  62.         Example: C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\INSTALL.EXE
  63.  
  64.  
  65.     b: If you have the floppy version of the Diamond GT Drivers, type in the
  66.            following:
  67.  
  68.         X:\INSTALL.EXE
  69.  
  70.         Where X is the letter of the floppy drive.
  71.  
  72.     The following command line switches can be used with INSTALL:
  73.  
  74.         /f              This forces a Full installation (Diamond GT 
  75.                          display driver and InControl Tools 95).
  76.  
  77.          /m              This forces a Minimal installation (Diamond GT
  78.                          display driver only).
  79.  
  80.         /d"drive:\path" This installs InControl Tools 95 into drive:\path. Note
  81.                          that the quotes around the drive and path are
  82.                          required, and that either the /f or /m must be used
  83.                          in conjunction with this switch.
  84.   
  85.         /r              This forces a system reboot after installation.  Note
  86.                          that either the /f or /m switches must be used in
  87.                          conjunction with this switch.
  88.  
  89.          /nr             This prevents a system reboot after installation.
  90.                         Note that either the /f or /m switches must be
  91.                         used in conjunction with this switch.
  92.  
  93.         uninstall       This will completely uninstall the Diamond GT display
  94.                         driver and InControl Tools 95.

  97. 4.  From the Diamond Setup dialog box, select Next.
  98.  
  99.  
  100. 5.  From the Hardware Check dialog box, select Next.
  101.  
  102.  
  103. 6.  A dialog box will appear containing the path where InControl Tools 95 
  104.     will be installed.  The default path is:
  105.  
  106.         C:\Program Files\Diamond
  107.  
  108.     Select Next, or change the path as necessary.
  109.  
  110. 7.  The next dialog box selects the installation type.  There are three
  111.     installation types, Minimal, Full, and Custom.  They are defined as
  112.     follows:
  113.  
  114.          Minimal:  This will install only the Diamond GT display driver.
  115.  
  116.          Full:     This will install both the Diamond GT display driver
  117.                    and InControl Tools 95.
  118.  
  119.          Custom:   This will allow installation of either the Diamond GT
  120.                     display driver or InControl Tools 95.  At the minimum, 
  121.                     the Diamond GT display driver must be installed during
  122.                     a first-time installation.
  123.  
  124.  
  125. 8.  If Custom was selected in step 8, a dialog box will appear allowing
  126.      selection of various items.  Select the items to be installed by
  127.     clicking on them with the left mouse button.  When finished, click
  128.     Next to continue.

  132. 9. At the Select Files to be copied dialog box, click Next to begin the
  133.     file copy process.
  134.  
  135. 10. After the files have been copied, a Finished Installing dialog box will
  136.     appear.  Click Finish.
  137.  
  138. 11. Windows 95 will ask that the computer be restarted.  Click on Yes to
  139.     restart the computer.

  142. Selecting A User-Defined Monitor
  143. --------------------------------
  144. If your monitor is not listed in the Windows 95 monitor list, you can define
  145. your monitor's specifications using the Diamond Monitor Wizard.  To run the
  146. Wizard, follow the directions below:
  147.  
  148. 1.  Double click on the InControl Desktop Manager icon in the tray.
  149.  
  150. 2.  From the Display Properties box, select the Settings tab.
  151.  
  152. 3.  Select Change Display Type.
  153.  
  154. 4.  Select Change next to the Monitor Type box.
  155.  
  156. 5.  Select Show All Devices.
  157.  
  158. 6.  Select (User defined monitor types).  User defined monitor(InControl Tools
  159.     95) should be highlighted in the right side of the dialog box.
  160.  
  161. 7.  Click OK.
  162.  
  163. 8.  Click Wizard.  This will launch the Diamond Monitor Wizard.
  164.  
  165. Known Limitations
  166. -----------------
  167. If these drivers are installed from "Have Disk" with the Microsoft S3 driver
  168. already active, the Microsoft driver will overwrite the PCI frame buffer 
  169. address.  The system *MUST* be powered down after installing the Diamond GT 
  170. Windows 95 display driver to remedy this issue.  Note that this issue does not
  171. occur when installing over the Microsoft VGA driver.
  172.  
  173. If these drivers are installed from "Have Disk", the first restart will result
  174. in Windows 95 coming up in Safe Mode.  You will receive an error message
  175. stating that there is a problem with your display settings.  The Display
  176. Properties page will appear.  Select Cancel.  This will let Windows 95 continue
  177. to load in Safe Mode.  From the Start menu or My Computer, select Control Panel,
  178. then select Display, then select Settings.  Change the color depth to 256
  179. colors or greater and restart Windows 95.
  180.  
  181. When installing DirectX applications, a dialog box may appear asking if
  182. you would like to install a certified DirectX driver.  You should select
  183. "No", so that the Diamond GT drivers will not be overwritten.  The Diamond GT
  184. drivers will be DirectX-certified as soon as certification begins by Microsoft.
  185.  
  186. It is recommended that all screen savers be disabled prior to the installation
  187. of the Diamond GT / InControl Tools 95 product set.
  188.  
  189. When the Microsoft Office v.4.3 Office Manager splash screen appears, the
  190. splash screen will be white instead of gray.  Two gray blocks will also appear
  191. in the upper left hand corner of Windows 95.  The gray blocks will disappear
  192. after the splash screen goes away.  This problem is being investigated.
  193.  
  194.  
  195. MechWarrior 2 for Windows 95 will give a black screen if animation sequences 
  196. are run in 640x480 true color mode.  Use 320x200 mode to resolve this issue.

  199.  
  200. A General Protection Fault may occur by running After Dark for Windows v.3.1.
  201. Upgrading to After Dark v.3.2 will resolve this issue.
  202.  
  203. To view the Online Internet Services, your World Wide Web browser must be
  204. registered with the Windows 95 Registry.
  205.  
  206. On the Stealth64 Video 3000 Series, in some virtual modes, some desktop noise
  207. may appear while panning.  This problem is being investigated.
  208.  
  209. If you encounter problems when setting modes, you may want to try one of the
  210. Standard Monitor Types in the Monitor Type dialog of the Display Properties
  211. sheet.
  212.  
  213. With some BIOSes, you may encounter problems switching between the desktop and
  214. 320x200 or 320x240 DirectDraw modes.  This problem is being investigated.  A
  215. BIOS upgrade may address this for you.  See below for more information on
  216. BIOSes.
  217.  
  218. With some BIOSes, the Diamond GT driver may not correctly identify your Diamond
  219. display adapter.  A BIOS upgrade may address this for you.  See below for more
  220. information on BIOSes.
  221.  
  222. The following BIOSes have been tested with the Diamond GT display driver.  Please
  223. note that it is NOT necessary to have one of the BIOS versions listed below in
  224. order to use these drivers.  However, if you have an older BIOS and are encountering
  225. difficulties, it is recommended that you contact Diamond Customer Service at
  226. 408-325-7100 (option 3) to get the current version of the BIOS for your Diamond
  227. display adapter:
